Gossip (Publishing) Girl

What does Gatekeeper do on a Wednesday night?

Meet with other young agents/editors, nibble the orange slices in half-priced hefeweizens (and curly fries), and hear the latest gossip about the industry, of course.

Our preferred hangout. Yes, that's a painting of the last supper, featuring Van Morrison and Madonna; yes, that's exposed brick--and yes, the place is lit almost entirely by candles (the little glass oil lamps the size of tea lights). Note the fuzzy velvet couches. Comfy.

Is there any gossip you especially want to know about? Ask the Gatekeeper by 5pm, and I'll see what I can do.

Um, XOXO?

Hahahha! You sound like a little girl in a candy shop. I LOVE IT!

Thanks, A.A.!

And if you want to read about the possibility of chocolate bullets, chocolate machine guns, and fun things to do with both of them in a candy store, go read the Alliterative blog!

Gah I hate you right now. I'm going to IHOP this evening. If I ever come to NY I get to be cool like you--right?

Jamie, if you come to New York, I will give you a personal "This is why NY is cool and you are cool in it" tour. It will involve bagels, beer, bookstores, pizza, 85th-story views, boats, bars on boats, bridges, fondue, chocolate, candles, exposed brick, and speeding taxis. You in? :)

Oh, and coffee. Lots of coffee.

I'll be in NY in June 0f 2011. I'm hoping my agent tours me around some. Beer and cheese are always to on my list. My book will be out by then too. I'm hoping to make it a whirlwind visit of epic coolness.

Oooo, gossip! What girl doesn't love good gossip. After reading this comment thread, though, I just want to come with you and Jamie on the NY tour! :-)

So much for the 5pm deadline.

Guess I'll meet Madonna for a late dinner.

I grew up in NJ and worked in NYC summers and after college -- even worked in the World Trade Center for a few years.

I love your posts about NYC, but seriously envy you your PIZZA! No one in the southwest can match it, which is frustrating.

I miss hot pretzels on the street, Ali Baba's (in Hoboken), Carmine's (in the city -- best italian food I ever ate in my whole life) NYC at Christmas, Broadway plays, bakeries, diners.

(I wonder if I could get a pizza overnighted? I actually think about that.)

I even rode one year in the Vietnam Veterans Run on the back of my boyfriend's motorcycle, through the Lincoln Tunnel, everyone helmetless and ending at the feast of San Gennaro.

There is no place in the world like NYC.

When I was young, I used to wish I were Eloise and lived at the Plaza. : )

So, have you been goaded for glorious gossip yet, Gatekeeper? Was it as wonderful as you had wished? :)
