This is fantastic news! I'm crossing my fingers that this editor will be a huge success and will open new doors for writers (like me) with books in this genre.

Question: Did you see they are currently sponsoring a contest where authors can submit a pitch and their first paragraph to have their manuscript considered for publication? Is it dangerous for a currently unagented writer to enter that contest? What if they reject you for the contest, and later on the writer gets an agent who wants to submit to this editor? Will it hurt the writer's chances?

Hi Erin,

This is Georgia McBride, Founder and Host of #YAlitchat. I read your comment and am excited that we have managed to excite you! I don't think it will hurt you to enter the contest, not receive a request for your ms and then go on to become agented and want to submit to St. Martin's Press. Your agent will be able to pitch you as a writer as well as your project as a whole--something we may not have been able to get from your initial submission. Or, your agent may have had you revise you initial ms since your submission, etc.

So, go ahead and submit. You have absolutely nothing to loose and everything to gain.

Good luck-
Georgia

This question and answer were perfect. It was just the one on my mind. I was also wondering what would happen to the unagented writer that did get a bite from St. Martin's Press. Would they be willing to wait while said author tried to obtain an agent?
