I'm a big fan of reading in the tub. (It's probably because it was such a popular scene in eighties movies--when the protagonist wanted to relax, she lit a few candles, got some chocolates, made thousands of bubbles--and Calgon took her away.)
But the Kindle seems about as safe as a plugged-in hair dryer, right?
Not so, says Nathan Bransford. "Put it in a Ziploc bag and it's more waterproof/sandproof than a paper book."
Huh. Good point.

I laughed when I read that point on his list, but he's got a point. Still, I would be so nervous to do it after my incident with dropping my first iPod in the tub. Ugh, I lost a ton of music since my computer was in storage and broke not long after.
I'm still wondering what made me think taking my iPod in the water was a good idea!
And how brilliant was that Calgon commercial? We're still talking about all these years later!
As I commented on Nathan's blog -- I do exactly that! I seal my Kindle in a gallon sized ziplock baggie! Does it work? Yeppers. Is it smart? Well, I haven't dropped it yet!
Have I not already told you this fabulous tip? I even do it with my iPhone :)
